The 6u rack enclosure is a part of the cabinet that holds the networking equipment. They are abbreviated as a U and less known as RU. They stand for the unit of measurement applied to the equipment storage unit, servers, disk drives, and other kinds of devices. U measured as a 1.75 inches (44.45mm) as a standard rack, at 19 inches, is 42U.
